How My Grandfather Won the War
Description
How My Grandfather Won The War is a horizontally-scrolling game made for the 6th Casual Gameplay Design Competition based around the theme "exploration". The player controls an old fighter plane that can only be moved up and down. It is held in place by two rubber bands and the plane as well as everything in the environment looks as if it has been cut out of cardboard. The goal is to get as far as possible by dodging the obstacles. The plane has no real means of shooting, but by holding the space bar the plane can be pulled back slingshot-style to spew out a liquid that transforms any part of the environment. The dark scenery becomes sunny, fire turns into water, opponents become trees. That way hazards are turned harmless and it becomes possible to fly through them without consequence. The meter near the bottom of the screen fills up slowly however, so the attack needs to be used strategically. The plane only has three lives, but when they are used up the game is restarted at a checkpoint.
