31 for Windows
Description
31 For Windows is a card game for four players. It can be played by one player against the computer or against real players via the internet. The objective is to score as many points as possible by collecting cards of the same suit. The ace counts eleven, the ten, jack, queen and king all count ten points and other cards count as their face value. The highest possible score is therefore thirty-one hence the name.
The game is played with a regular deck of fifty-two cards. Three cards are dealt to each player and three cards, called the pot, are placed in the middle of the play area face down. The dealer evaluates their hand and either keeps it or exchanges it for the as yet unseen pot. Once this choice has been made the pot is revealed to all players.
Each player then takes turns in exchanging one card from their hand for a card from the pot. If the pot When a player is happy that their hand cannot be improved any more they pass and can make no more exchanges. The round ends when all players have passed and the player(s) with the lowest scores lose a life. There are two special rules.
-
A player may chose to exchange all of their cards for the contents of the pot.
-
If a player's hand scores thirty-one then the round ends immediately with no further card exchanging being allowed.
The installed game also features a harder variant called the 'van Eer-Maas' variation in which no player is allowed to take all of the pot. In both games the players lose a life if they have the lowest score in a round and the game continues until only one player remains.
The game has sound effects, three levels of difficulty, and a choice of languages English or Dutch. It is played entirely via the mouse.
