Given that 100% would be the perfect game (no game is perfect), Deathtrap is as close to perfect as you're going to get on PlayStation, the only thing that is missing is a multi-player option. Call me crazy but I never really understood what people saw in Tomb Raider (beyond the obvious), while Lara was always well drawn and animated, the graphics were just a little too pixelized and the gameplay frankly annoyed me. So, speaking from the point of view of someone who doesn't like the Tomb Raider style of game, I love Deathtrap Dungeon. While the two games are essentially very similar I can't explain why I dislike Tomb Raider and love Deathtrap, maybe it's the better graphics, maybe it's the depth of gameplay, maybe I'm just picky. Whatever the reason, you should go out right now and buy Deathtrap, if you even remotely like this style of game, it's the must buy game of the year.

Mega Fun (86 out of 100)

Deathtrap Dungeon is very much a game of trial and error, but to be fair, there’s usually a visible or audible clue to warn the adventurer. Some of the animations could have been better, and the graphics crisper, but thanks to the input of Mr Livingstone, it’s everything we could have hoped for.

Deathtrap Dungeon is a pretty cool game backed by a great idea. I did find myself wanting to keep pushing forward just to see what was next. There were a bit too many switches to be tripped for my liking and the control was tough at times, but overall you should enjoy this game for awhile. Once you finish the game, though, you may not be too excited about trying to finish it with the other character; you will find flipping the switches a second time around becomes almost a chore. All in all, if you are a fan of switch flippers, you should have a good time for quite a while with this game.

Well, Deathtrap Dungeon beckons with the promise of thrusting you into the fantasy world of Ian Livingstone's classic Fighting Fantasy novels. After staying conscious through as much of its tedious, soulless gameplay that I could endure, the only thing thrust anywhere was my finger towards the power button.

On the whole, fans will have mixed feelings about Deathtrap Dungeon. It's big, full of monsters, and is packed with action and puzzles, and the medieval theme is attractive to many a gamer. But the questionable sloppiness in many aspects of the game's very underpinnings render this about as attractive as leftover tuna or McDonalds french fries.

Deathtrap Dungeon proves that just because an idea sounds good, it won't necessarily be so once implemented. An ambitious project from the outset, it fails to live up to the hype-as well as to the standard of adventure we've come to expect from Eidos (Tomb Raider, anyone?). Only die-hard fantasy fans need to check this one out.

GameSpot (3.7 out of 10)

In the end, Deathtrap Dungeon turns out to be at the low end of games for the Sony PlayStation. It's not quite as good as Sony's Blasto, which it mirrors in that you can see how it could've turned out to be a good game, but it's not nearly as bad as Sony's Spawn, where you just can't imagine what the developers were thinking.

Deathtrap Dungeon can be an interesting dungeon romp, but only if you set your expectations low enough.
