Dirt Bike
Description
Dirt Bike is an off-road racing game in which the player races over a randomly generated landscape on an off-road motor bike.
Dirt Bike can be played as a single player game against AI opponents, by up to three players sharing a keyboard, or over a LAN or internet connection with other players. Additional tracks and bikes can be downloaded, and players, bikes and tracks can be edited.
When racing the player's bike usually has brown wheels and they race against other bikes with blue wheels, these bikes are the winners of earlier races so in beating them the player is effectively setting a new best time and creating an opponent for future races. The game can be played on a single screen or as a split screen showing the player's race in one window and the opponents in the other.
This game has some odd controls. For a single player shifting gear is up/down controlled by the left/right arrows but the throttle control is governed by the position of the mouse cursor, at the top of the screen the throttle is wide open while at the bottom of the screen it is fully closed. It has background music and a high score table that can be edited, unlike most games this does not prompt for a player name at the start so winners are called Player 1 until a real name is added, new players named players can be created but Player 1 is the default.
