The Geometric Golfer
Description
The Geometric Golfer is an educational game about geometry that is loosely based on the sport of golf. Like in the sport, the player's goal here is to sink a ball into a hole but here both the ball and the hole are geometric shapes. The ball is a polygon with three to eight sides while the hole is made of two polygons. The ball is considered sunk when it surrounds the inner polygon of the hole and is fully within its outer polygon. To strike the ball the player can use five clubs that transform the ball in various ways. The translate club is used to move the ball and this is done by drawing a vector. It is then slid by the given amount vertically and horizontally. The reflection club is used to draw a line of reflection. It will then be mirrored on the other side of the line. The dilation club is used to shrink or enlarge the ball. The distance from each point to the center is then multiplied by the scale given by the player. Finally there are two rotation clubs, one clockwise and one counter-clockwise.
The game consists of ten courses and most of them have nine holes. Like in the real sport the aim is to sink the ball in the least amount of strokes. The holes have two different obstacles: water and trees. Touching either of these will lead to a stroke penalty. The exception is when using the reflection club which allows the ball to traverse over water. In addition to the available courses it is also possible to design new ones through a in-game editor.
