Description

The Walking Dead: No Man's Land is free-to-play turn-based strategy and builder game. It has gameplay similar to the contemporary The Walking Dead: Road to Survival, but that game was based on The Walking Dead comics books, while this title is based on the AMC TV series adapted from the comics. The game is set parallel to the events in the TV series. It start when Terminus is overrun, an abandoned railroad yard termination complex for maintenance of trains, featured in season four and five of the series. The main character is Daryl Dixon. He is not playable, but appears during fights, provides hints and is the person to visit to start new missions. The player starts with the characters Joel, Ken and Ann who escape from Terminus and set up a new camp. They then have to complete different missions, grouped as episodes unlocked gradually. Other locations include a military base, a prison, the countryside and lakeside, and Shadow of Eden. There are often short story sections with new characters and the game has animated cut-scenes.

In the main camp, the player has to construct and upgrade buildings. Farms provide supplies, the basic currency in the game. The training grounds are used to upgrade characters, a hospital provides healing, a workshop is used to upgrade weapons and so on. The headquarters is called the council. All buildings can be upgraded multiple times. Sometimes the main camp is attacked, outside missions, and then the player has to tap the walkers to kill them.

The missions take place in smaller locations, shown from an almost top-down view. These sections are turn-based. The player chooses different actions and when these are completed the turn is over and the walkers get to act. Actions such as movement and attacking require action points and are performed through swipes. Each character has different statistics based on damage and health, but there are also six classes that provide very different abilities: Assault, Bruiser, Hunter, Scout, Shooter and Warrior. Characters have main abilities, but also specific traits. Different weapons also play an important role, for instance to stun an enemy for a turn or to shoot a ranged weapon that damages multiple enemies in a straight line. Each mission has different objectives, but usually the characters need to reach an exit area to complete the mission. Sound also plays an important role. Sometimes it is possible to use stealth to avoid detection as not all walkers need to be killed. There is a line of sight, sound attracts certain walkers, sometimes there is a wave timer counting down based on sound, or walkers suddenly appear after an action. Missions often offer a large amount of freedom in the approach, based on the team composition. Many levels have a level requirement for the characters.

During fights it is also possible to read signs and investigate loot locations. The latter can be used after a mission to unlock chests that contain bonuses such as experience, items, supplies and weapons. Completing missions also provides experience, another important currency next to supplies, to unlock many actions in the base. Experience can also be farmed through certain buildings. The chests sometimes contain radios that can be used in the main camp to recruit new survivors. There is a limited amount of space, that can be expanded over time, and redundant survivors can be let go.

The game is single-player only, but it possible to join guilds and work towards goals with other players and friends. The game is free-to-play with fuel as an energy/stamina system that is used to start a mission. When empty the player has to wait a while or buy a recharge. Gold is the premium currency. It can be used to buy upgrades or items right away or to skip waiting times. It can be earned in-game by getting achievements and then claiming the reward. Additionally bonuses and items can be earned by watching video advertisements in a cinema.
