Description

Play six different card games (Crazy Eights, Old Maid, Hearts, Gin Rummy, Cribbage, and Klondike Solitaire) against 0-3 computer opponents (as appropriate for each game).

There are 18 available computer opponents, including characters from other Sierra games (Colonel Henry Dijon, Shelly LeBlanc, Officer Sonny Bonds, Larry Laffer, King Graham, Roger Wilco and Princess Rosella), Sierra employees (Warren Schwader and Jerry Moore) and their children, and others. The different opponents play the different games at different skill levels, and are broken up into "Serious" and "Not-So-Serious" categories. All the opponents will taunt you (in character) as you play (though you can turn off in-game conversation if it's too distracting).

A neat collection of board games.

The Good
It's a lot of fun to play by yourself or (if I remember correctly) there's also a two-player option. It's not nearly as good as its sequel, Hoyle 3 gameplay-wise but is a decent game none the less. Neat graphics, well-done gameplay, decent (if nothing more AI) and good music make this one a great game to play, but not buy.

The Bad
Well, there're not enough games (unlike Hoyle 3); the entire idea is a bit dated (but so is this game) and the way the computer plays sometimes really gets on my nerves.

The Bottom Line
A good collection of games you'd enjoy, if you're into this sort of thing.

Trivia

Conversations

If a running game is left alone for a while, the computer players will start talking amongst themselves. Some of the conversations are quite amusing. If Roger Wilco and King Graham are two of the players, one of the things that they will talk about is Roger's crash landing in the King's Quest Castle moat in Space Quest: The Sarien Encounter.
