Angry Birds: Pop
Angry Birds: Pop is a variant of the Bust-A-Move / Puzzle Bobble games and based on the Angry Birds franchise. The game was initially launched as Angry Birds: Stella - Pop but the name was eventually changed to remove the reference to Stella as the animated series based around that character was discontinued. Players move through a long level path completing levels one by one based on a number of goals. As of December 2016 the game includes 1,325 levels. With typical Bust-A-Move gameplay the player has one of the birds control a slingshot at the bottom of the screen, launching bubbles and determining the launch direction. When the launched bubble touches another one it clings to it and if a group of the same colour is formed that way they pop, points are scored and the bubbles disappear. Bubbles bounce off the edges of the screen and chain reactions are possible, for instance by making a match high up so everything below drops down as well, all typical mechanics for games based around this gameplay.
Up to three stars can be scored per level. Streaks fill up a pop meter and provide special bubbles when full. The player regularly needs to tap the bird or the meter to maintain the boost. Playable birds include Bomb, Chuck, Matilda, Stella (later removed) and Red. They are chosen automatically for specific types of levels based on the goal. Special bubbles are tied to a specific bird. They include blast pop, color pop (removes any bubbles that the colour it hits), flash pop, flock pop, line pop, love pop, power pop, prize pop, red pop (have the bubble blast through the entire screen), rock pop, royal pop, sonic pop and splash pop (change any bubble in the area to a single colour). Removed bubbles often bounce on pedals at the bottom of the screen with different scores for where they disappear, similar to the Peggle games.
Level types include Beat the Clock, Defeat the King Pig, Drop the Pigs, Free the Hatchlings, Piggy in the Middle (drop the pig by popping all surrounding bubbles), and Pop the Top (pop any six top row bubbles). Sometimes the birds also need to break glass barriers or wood blocks. Bubbles near the slingshot can be swapped for a different one coming up next. Rewards are provided for completing different types of quests. The game is free-to-play with advertisements and coins as a currency to buy booster bubbles such as color crush, crusher, fireball, instant bird boost, midnight eye sight (extend the aiming line) and rainbow bubble (match with any colour). Coins can be bought in the shop and there are also lives as an energy/stamina system.
