Description official description

Lichtspeer is a fast-paced game controlling a character throwing spears from a stationary position surviving waves of enemies. In the introduction the character is chosen as a champion (Lichtmeister) to entertain the Lichtgod, fighting and dying for his amusement by participating in a so-called ancient Germanic tradition. Because the character is so weak (s)he receives a powerful Lichtspeer to fight. The game uses a humorous tone and mixes Viking influences with psychedelic colours and futuristic elements such as lasers.

Every level has a different theme with names such as Egyptonia, Techno Piramids, Wildwoods and Wurstland. Each level consists of multiple scenes, usually with a boss at the end. The character is on the left and the player aims and shoots Lichtspeers to attack the enemies that appear on the right. A partial trajectory line is show to assist with the aiming. There is an unlimited amount of spears and enemies often attack with different patterns. There are flying creatures that approach from above, walking or running enemies, some protected by shields etc. If they reach the player's character the scene immediately needs to be replayed in its entirety. Enemies consist of Evil Spacedwarfs, Hipster Ice Giants, Penguins in boats, Penguin Vikings, Warlocks, Wurst Zombies etc.

It is possible to compete for high scores by stringing together hits without missing. This gradually improves a score multiplier. Precision is rewarded to, not only for the score, but also to dispatch of certain enemies quicker or to get past a shield. Levels also have secondary objectives for bonus points. Between levels a currency called LSD (Licht Standard Denomination) can be spent in a shop to acquire Lichtpowers and upgrade them. These powers are divided into three categories (Attack, Defence and Uber) and can be activated during gameplay. All three categories have a cooldown time, but can otherwise be used without restriction. Attack powers include Trispeer (split a spear into three projectiles), Licht hammer (change the spear in a powerful hammer) and Licht drones. Defence powers include the Licht Guardian (a wall of licht), a shield, Trance (doubles the bonus but reduces aim), Zuper Time (slowdown). Uber powers are Lichtcolumn, Lightrain and Lightray that usually clear the entire screen. When the character misses too many times in succession, the Lichtgod becomes angry and interferes shouting "Nein!" immobilizing the character briefly. There are two difficulty levels: normal and rage quit.

The Switch version of the game includes an exclusive two-player co-operative mode.
