The Bottom Line
Having played (and loved) Cultures 1, I was of course interested in getting the second installment of the german Cultures Game series. And I haven't been dissapointed, by a long shot! The length of the missions a size of the maps are just right, lots of new features have been built in like upgradable buildings, weaponry and armors. The isometric graphics are good and colorful, although they are completely held in 2D. A RTS game of our time like Cultures 2 could have used a fresh new looking 3D environment... But if you liked the graphics of the first Cultures, you will just love this one.. The 2d display is even more detailed, birds and animals flying and running around, you'll see nice water effects, the buildings offer rich details. As for the sound, it's far more than just appropriate, the stereo sound effects are very realistic and the ingame music is atmospheric, mellow and has a soft soothing feel to it. Some negative aspects; there's too much micromanagement in here, even to build up a simple house takes several minutes to do. Also, the game takes some time to learn, it's not the easiest one to handle. Anyway, Cultures 2 is a fine product, two thumbs up!
