Shadowbane is a dark fantasy Massively Multiplayer Online Roleplaying Game (MMORPG) with a large amount of player interaction with other players and the world.
The game takes place in the world of Aerynth during the Age of Strife -- a dark period in the history of the world. Players can play as one of 10 races and over 20 character classes. One of the most notable aspects of the game is the high level of player-versus-player combat (PvP). "Feature characters", portrayed by actors hired by the developer, Wolfpack Studios, play important people in the world. Politics is also a major part of gameplay. Unlike many other MMORPGs, Shadowbane puts all the players in one large conglomerated set of worlds rather than mirrored shards/servers. Beyond the price of the game software, players must pay a monthly fee to play this exclusively online game.

The Good
Best team and solo PVP game ever made. The lore created by Sam "Meridian" Johnson was so amazing in how it greatly encouraged conflict through disparate histories. To this day, no one knows how my elf druid was so powerful (Celee/Qualme on Mourning)
The Bad
The graphics were terrible in 2003, but they let us mass PVP with hundreds of people in view concurrently on our crappy computers.
The Bottom Line
Someone needs to be willing to waste millions to make a new version of this game because PVP today is just MOBA crap.

Trivia
When developer Wolfpack Studios Inc. was shut down by Ubisoft in May 2006, support for this game was taken over by Stray Bullet Games, a newly-founded company by ex-Wolfpack Studios employees.
