Solitaire King: Klondike

Solitaire King: Klondike is a freeware, mouse controlled, single player card game, it can be played in a window or in full screen mode.

This title was of a number of freeware games that the developer released to promote interest in the full product Solitaire King which had thirty-one different games and over eighty variations thereof.

The game is played with a standard deck of fifty-two cards which are dealt into seven piles, one card in column one, two cards in column two etc, after the deal the top card of each pile is turned over. The remainder of the deck forms the draw pile and these are turned over one at a time. Aces when encountered are moved to one of the four foundations and the remainder of the cards follow as they become available in ascending sequence within the same suit. Other cards are played onto the seven piles in descending sequence red on black / black on red. Whenever a column becomes empty only a king, and the sequence of cards below it, can be moved into the gap.

In the default game where cards from the draw pile are turned over one at a time the player only gets one pass at the draw pile, when it is exhausted the game is over. There are other game variations:* One variation turns over cards from the draw pile three at a time – in this variation the player can have as many passes through the draw pile as they want.

• Another variation allows cards to be played from the foundations back onto one of the columns.

• Finally there’s the ‘Thumb and Pouch’ variation which allows any card to be played into an empty column and instead of alternating red/black/red in the columns any colour can be played on any other provided the suit is different.

The aim of the game in all its variations is to have all cards moved to the foundations starting with the ace and ending with the king

The game has save/load and undo/redo functions but has no sound and no statistics are kept. It is played entirely with the mouse.
