Ancients 1: Death Watch

Moby ID: 894

Description

Ancients 1: Death Watch is a mystical fantasy role-playing game, bringing players deep in the underground to do battle with bizarre monsters and find untold riches in and beneath the city of Locklaven.

The player uses keyboard or mouse to control a party of four explorers who journey together and must work as a team to ward off the many inhabitants of the dungeon. Said dungeon consists of several levels with increasing difficulty and the (relatively) save town above ground in which the characters can shop and heal.

Combat in the game is turn-based. Character improvement uses the traditional experience system, but after a level up the guild in Locklaven has to be visited. The game allows for three races (elf, dwarf and human) and four classes (warrior, thief, mage and priest).

Watch for the Evil

The Good
Quick to install, menu interface is well organized. Simple and straight forward story, four adventurers seek out a singing sewer living fairy maiden who has been captured by two evil kings. Battles are neat, point and click wise. In my own view this game is better than its sequel Ancients 2: Approaching Evil, as the second game is too complex, complicated and frustrating however this one is of a higher standard.

The Bad
Having to exit the sewers when passing the experience requirement to level up at the guild.

The Bottom Line
My second favourite RPG

Game Review of Ancients 1: Deathwatch

The Good
I liked the fact that this game was only a 428k zip file. This way, if I didn't like it, I could delete it without taking up my PC memory. This game also has quite impressive graphics and interavtive play. On A scale of 1-10, the graphics would get an 8. I suggest you try this game out.

The Bad
I didn't like the fact that this game starts out really tough. After you play it for a bit, it gets easier.

The Bottom Line
If you like the Final Fantasy and Zelda games, you'll probably like Ancients.
