It's still World War II, but Gray Matter wasn't content to simply follow the winning formula of the first game. The campaigns are a little shorter than in the original game, but they're still longer than any of the sequels. Call of Duty featured some cinematic flourishes here and there, but United Offensive takes it to a whole new level. Whether it's trying to escape Germans in a long car chase after blowing up huge artillery guns in Sicily or defending Kharkov's railroad station against the combined might of German infantry, tanks, and aircraft, United Offensive makes every mission memorable.
WindowsGaming Target (Feb 07, 2007)
The play is intense, they graphics are great, and the multiplayer is better than ever. There isn’t as much freedom to plan your missions and strategies as other games, but the fast pace and cinematic grandeur keeps United Offensive consistently engaging. If you liked the original, you’re going to love the expansion pack. It keeps up the intensity of the original as you run across tortured terrain under machine gun fire. It improves on the graphics with detailed new textures. And it has improved on the multiplayer by adding some great maps, a level system and new modes of play. United Offensive is Call of Duty, only more so.
WindowsWorth Playing (Sep 23, 2004)
The fact that Call of Duty: United Offensive is better than the original game in nearly every regard should be enough to make any gamer take pause. Where most expansion packs merely add more of the same levels and maybe a few additional weapons, United Offensive adds incredibly fresh content, weapons that are actually new and both require and open up different tactics than those found in the original, and gameplay enhancements that makes a person wonder how they ever got through the first Call of Duty without deeply wishing for them. If you found the original Call of Duty to be an absolutely jaw-dropping game in itself then United Offensive should already be on your must-have list, and newcomer’s to the game would do well to pick up the as-yet unannounced but hopefully inevitable Call of Duty double pack.
WindowsFOK!games (Oct 01, 2004)
WindowsActionTrip (Sep 14, 2004)
That my friends, is plenty of quality content. Hats off to Gray Matter for far exceeding my expectations; I realize that I sound like a total goddamn fan boy right now, but certain games deserve all the props they can get, and this happens to be one of them. If you're shooter fan, you need to pick up United Offensive right now. You'd be a fool not to. Bear in mind, however, that this is not a stand-alone expansion, so you'll need the original game to run it.
WindowsGameZone (Sep 20, 2004)
Call of Duty: United Offensive is a real gem of an expansion pack, adding a ton of new content and some fantastic multiplayer features to the original game while introducing some compelling new levels that no fan of the original should be without. Check it out now.
MacintoshGames4Mac (2005)
WindowsGame Chronicles (Oct 09, 2004)
If you own the first then you must own the expansion, and while newcomers on a budget would be better served waiting for the bundle, even at $60 you won’t be disappointed with this series. United Offensive is an amazing ride, definitely more exciting than the original game, but probably not as unique since most of us already knew what to expect. With console versions of Call of Duty on the holiday horizon, this is one franchise that is destined to become as legendary as WWII itself.
WindowsFiringSquad (Sep 20, 2004)
Featuring the same thrilling ride through three theaters of World War II, including a new and a little too over-the-top B-17 gunner mission, United Offensive is everything that Call of Duty was. That, alone, wouldn’t have gotten it an award. Fortunately, Gray Matter put a ton of work into the multiplayer aspect, including tanks, almost a dozen huge new maps, and a rank system. The new modes of play are easier to get into though they’re likely to turn off some of the hardcore CoD players.
WindowsHardGamers (Sep 29, 2004)
WindowsBoomtown (Oct 08, 2004)
The intermittent crashing that I experienced in the original game (apparently something to do with my ATI card) is still present, more so in the lighthouse level, but nothing too show-stopping. The gameplay is still all there and that’s surely what counts. United Offensive is well worth purchasing.
WindowsGame Watcher (Jan 19, 2005)
Overall, the multiplayer and the eight hour campaign should keep you satisfied long enough to warrant a purchase. If you were a fan of the original Call of Duty, you will love this game. If you don’t have Call of Duty, there couldn’t be a better time to get into it. Although you need the original to play this game, it is well worth it because this game is spectacular and so is the original. Any first-person shooter fan should love this game, and it’s probably the best WW2 first person shooter out now.
WindowsChrist Centered Game Reviews (Jun 01, 2005)
Very fun. Overall the game is filled with 12 missions. What they lack in missions, they make up for in longevity of the missions, and the sheer 'funnness' of them. The last mission was almost impossible, as they had you defend a train station from constant barrage by the Germans. Eventually, I got tired of it and hid in a corner until the reinforcements arrived. Otherwise though, a very fun game.
WindowsCheat Code Central (2004)
What you've got here is a pricey expansion pack worth every little penny. If you've got the original game and a PC slightly above the recommended PIII 800 MHz, 256 MB RAM and a supported video card - ATI Radeon, nVidia GeForce and Matrox Parhelia - there shouldn't be anything stopping you from joining the Offensive. Hitler needs his ass kicked and you're just the gamer to do it.
Windows1UP (Sep 16, 2004)
Entrenched deep on the front, enemy soldiers left and right fogged by billowing clouds dirty with the blood of brothers...this is war. Angrily, it comes at you and it doesn't let go. And before you know it, it's over. The story of war was told so well in the original Call of Duty, it won a mess of awards and set the flag to follow for a whole new generation of military based first-person shooters.
WindowsGameSpot (Sep 14, 2004)
By turning up the intensity, United Offensive breathes new life into Call of Duty, which is saying quite a bit, because Call of Duty is an impressive game by itself. Nonetheless, this is an excellent expansion. The single-player campaign may be a bit brief, but it's packed with plenty of cinematic moments, and the new multiplayer gameplay should keep you busy long after you've blown through the single-player game. It's a no-brainer to say that United Offensive is a must-have if you enjoyed Call of Duty.
WindowsArmchair Empire, The (Oct 10, 2004)
I loved Call of Duty. The film like experience was truly engrossing and it was on many nights that I couldn’t tear myself away from my computer simply to experience the atmosphere of tension and horror that the game was so good at creating. With the expansion pack, United Offensive continues along the same path with a handful of new missions and some great new additions.

World War 2. Five years in which a lot of fighting has been done, lots of people have died, and even more lost dear ones. In Call of Duty you could, together with the American, British and Russian liberators, free Europe from the steal grip of Hitler and his Nazi party. The game was beautiful, wonderful, great atmosphere and you felt immediately part of the team. But not all battles made Call of Duty. More reason to make an expansion that would include these: Call of Duty: United Offensive.
WindowsGameguru Mania (Sep 21, 2004)
Is the expansion worth your hard earned money? The answer is surprisingly simple - definitely yes! As I said, the game is even shorter (and more frustrating) than Call of Duty, but for an expansion pack it still gives a GREAT EXPERIENCE overall. It takes the MP and totally gives it a new flavor, with tons of new maps, weapons, gameplay modes, and vehicles. So, if you own Call of Duty this is a must have.
WindowsGame Informer Magazine (Nov, 2004)
There are a few things that could still stand some fixing. Getting unexpectedly caught on the level geometry is a bit too frequent, and AI bots tendency to unload whole clips into walls they don't notice. However, neither of these flaws is annoying enough to bring down the amusement factor much at all. I highly recommend this to everyone who has a PC that can handle it.
WindowsGameSpot (Belgium/Netherlands) (Oct 12, 2004)
WindowsDaily Game (Nov 01, 2004)
Between campaigns and after the last, you’re treated to movies of your battlefield experience. These provide a nice cap to each story, and although they don’t exactly match what you did, they’re a nice climactic run-through of various moments. Once you’ve finished watching the last movie, you’re left with a warm feeling of accomplishment that’s a bit too quick for a regular game, but just right for an expansion. And when all is said and done, “just right” is all a Call of Duty fan could hope for from United Offensive.
WindowsGamezoom (Oct 17, 2004)
Was soll man noch sagen?

If you were one of the many people who enjoyed Call of Duty, adding this expansion to your game collection is worth it. It offers a new and improved look at this highly intense World War II FPS. The only things that I had a problem with were the dated graphics (which wasn’t hard to overcome), the shaky A.I., and the “use” key not always working correctly when trying to use things such as levers or artillery guns (I’m sure there will be patches). These few problems were not enough to distract me from a great expansion.

WindowsGame Over Online (Sep 14, 2004)
Apart from this, United Offensive is an extremely worthy successor to the Call of Duty Crown. Sure, the game is still a little short and the AI could use work, but the relatively expanded scope of the battles (thanks to the often overwhelming odds you'll face) gives you a better sense of being a part of a greater event, and the continually swirling action around you makes you really feel like you're in danger for a majority of the time. Add to that some new weapons, multiplayer maps and vehicles, and you've got an impressive expansion to 2003's Game of the Year.
MacintoshInside Mac Games (IMG) (Dec 13, 2004)
Most gamers who enjoyed Call of Duty enough to plunk down the cash for the Call of Duty: United Offensive Expansion Pack will spend many an hour enjoying what this game continues to offer: fast action, overwhelming confusion, sticky challenges, and varied battlescapes. Although a tougher rib than the cage from which it was plucked, United Offensive offers up at least as much action as Call of Duty, with additional multiplayer modes and features, new weapons, and new modes of vehicle combat.
WindowsPC Action (Oct 28, 2004)
WindowsJolt (UK) (Oct 08, 2004)
United Offensive is nevertheless an impressive expansion pack. It’s a shame that the less-than-steller American missions have to be played through first to get to the good stuff, plus you have to wonder whether the game has been made more difficult to disguise the fact that it’s so short (expect to have the campaign licked in a couple of evenings). The high price is also rather galling – £24.99 for an expansion pack that isn’t even a standalone is a bit cheeky. These are thankfully relatively minor criticisms when considering the enjoyable new multiplayer mode, and how impressively cinematic and fun the stronger single player levels are, but they should still be kept in mind if you’re considering giving UO a purchase.
WindowsIGN (Sep 14, 2004)
Last year, we liked Call of Duty a lot, and we weren't alone. We pretty much considered it the top PC game we'd seen that year--intense action, amazing sound, and a sense of being in the thick of historic drama. For some reason, fighting Nazis never gets old, especially with the backdrop of Europe. Technically, not every German soldier was necessarily a member of the Nazi party, but it's fun to pretend when you're filling them full of lead.
WindowsGame Shark (Nov 05, 2004)
With some truly amazing and intense action due to the excellent mission scripting, immersive and entertaining gameplay that is challenging without being overwhelmingly hard (most of the time), and some new multiplayer functionality that almost brings the game’s online capabilities to that of Battlefield 1942, Call of Duty: United Offensive would easily be an unquestionably excellent action pack if it weren’t so short in the singleplayer department and didn’t suffer from a few annoying quirks. That said, the fresh experiences and new multiplayer elements alone make this pack a must-buy for any fan – and considering the street price, can you really go wrong? This is an expansion pack that I would not hesitate to recommend to anybody who loved the original.
WindowsGameplay (Benelux) (Sep 30, 2004)
Multiplayer steelt echter de show.
WindowsGameStar (Germany) (Oct, 2004)

Like the heartburn from my Aunt Boochie’s Lasagna, those wily Nazis just won’t seem to stay down despite our best military efforts and largest bottles of extra strength Tums. So with taut backs, soothed bellies and heads held high, we decided to return to the battlefield to duke it out with Call of Duty: United Offensive.
WindowsPC Games (Germany) (Oct 10, 2004)
Puh - Rettung in letzter Sekunde.
WindowsAbsolute Games ( (Oct 12, 2004)
WindowsComputer Gaming World (CGW) (Dec, 2004)
This expansion is a compelling, dramatic WWII shooter with some of the most cinematic action ever converted into 1s and 0s—just like Call of Duty. If you're OK with that, you're going to be more than OK with United Offensive.
WindowsJust Games Retro (Nov 06, 2011)
I think it’s fair to say United Offensive’s greatest contributions were in multiplayer, and that’s just not going to be as important today. Regardless, it’s still got a great single-player campaign that hits some highlights the original didn’t, and despite some hiccups, is still fun to play. Worth a playthrough on the cheap.
MacintoshmacHOME (Mar, 2005)
Truly, the only substantial knock against the game is its occasional repetitiveness. “Half-track on the left! Half-track on the right!” There are several sections where you’re sent running back and forth repeating the same task over and over again, and it begins to feel like a French farce. There were also several bugs that caused the game to unexpectedly quit; we expect a patch from Aspyr to fix that problem in no time. All in all, CoD: UO is one of the better expansions we’ve seen recently, and a great game in and of its own.
WindowsG4 TV: X-Play (Apr 07, 2006)
Yes, we’re getting really tired of WWII shooters, but United Offensive is a gem. Unlike the flagging Medal of Honor series, which is on the verge of overstaying its welcome, Call of Duty: United Offensive feels fresh and exciting. It’s also as fine example of what video games do best. They give players a sense of time and place that is unmatched in any other medium. In United Offensive you are there. And even though it’s short, it’s a great ride.
WindowsGameDaily (Oct 13, 2004)
Don't try to overdue it on maxing out the graphics options if your computer isn't up to date. The expansion eats up a lot of memory and resources. Whether it's manning a machine gun, or taking down a tank, a lot of things go on at once, and you better pay attention. This is a well designed expansion to a great game, and fans of WWII FPS games will not be disappointed with what you get out of United Offensive. It's got a lot of good epic moments to it, and like any good game, it consumes you in its world, and makes you feel like your really there.
80 (Jan, 2005)
WindowsESC Magazine (Oct 13, 2004)
Call of Duty: United Offensive is definitely worth picking up if you had any kind of fun playing the original game, and especially if you're a hardcore fan. As long as you're prepared to make the jump from Band of Brothers-style detail to John Wayne style scale, you're going to love fighting for every inch of ground you take.
MacintoshAppleLinks.Com (Nov 29, 2004)
It's an amazing experience, both as a first-person shooter and as a World War II game, diminished slightly if your system is at the bottom of the spec range, and diminished greatly by the bugs. Still, if you enjoyed Call of Duty, United Offensive will give you more than you could ask for. If you don't have Call of Duty, it's worth buying just so you can play its expansion pack. Don't even wait for Aspyr to bundle them...just do it now.

80 (UK) (Sep 27, 2004)
If I thought war was hell before, now I'm really in it. After the last tour under the Infinity Ward command, this time I've been plunged into something under the control of a unit codenamed Gray Matter, and whereas my last excursion was well orchestrated and supported - a collision of accepted tactical principles that shepherded me through the fieriest hotspots in Northern Europe, and demanded all my unit's intuition and improvisation to survive - this latest push feels like flash after flash in a series of increasingly searing pans. I was sitting in a foxhole in Bastogne recently with the cold steel of a 30-cal clutched to my chest and Germans with Panzer support swarming across a snow-blanketed valley towards me, and if it hadn't been for my CO's continuous hand-holding I might not have made it out of there.

75 (Feb 16, 2005)
So, Call of Duty: United Offensive has a "been there, done that" feel to it. They dragged on some of the missions to stall for time. They borrowed ideas from Wolfenstein. The game is beatable in only a few days. All this negative being said, it’s still an add-on to one of my all-time favorite games. It’s not as good as the original, and not everyone will want to shell out the money to get the expansion. The multiplayer is wonderful, and the single player is decent, but not the shining point that it was in the original. I criticized so much because I like the Call of Duty franchise, and honestly they could have done a little more in the expansion. If you are a die-hard fan of Call of Duty, pick the expansion up, otherwise wait for it to be on sale, or on the discount rack, and play Call of Duty in the meantime.
WindowsSuper Play (Sweden) (Oct, 2004)

WindowsThunderbolt Games (Oct 28, 2004)
United Offensive expands on what made Call of Duty so popular with fans of the genre. Gray Matter have used the opportunity to try out some new ideas, some of which - the bombing raid for example - work very well, while retaining the overall feel of the original game. It re-establishes the game's hold on the WWII shooter sub-genre and although it may not be worth a purchase for the singleplayer alone, the multiplayer makes it a worthy addition to any collection.
WindowsGameSpy (Sep 13, 2004)
Sadly, some of this magic is missing from the first Call of Duty expansion pack, United Offensive. If Call of Duty let you run free in the playground, then United Offensive keeps you on a short leash and yanks hard when you don't do things the right way. Thankfully, enough of the core CoD formula remains intact to keep things enjoyable, and the multiplayer additions ultimately make this package worth the investment, but anyone looking for missions on the same level as the original will probably find themselves a bit disappointed.
WindowsGamekult (Oct 08, 2004)
