Plenty to do, most of it interesting

The Good
Mad Max runs like a dream. I have a 7 year old computer that frankly was a bit of a beast 7 years ago but now is showing its age. And I could play Mad Max on max settings and get pretty much solid 60 fps. The graphics are awesome at presenting a post-apocalyptic world. The story kept me gripped most of the way and even when it didn't I still could find interesting stuff to do on the map. Mad Max is basically a sandbox (quite literally) that allows you to go off the beaten path whenever you like. And while some of the stuff you can do can seem like unnecessary busywork I also found it unnecessary enough that I could basically just do something else whenever I got bored with something. The game uses the Arkham combat system and it does so quite competently. I have only seen it done better in the Arkham games and Shadow of Mordor. Lastly the Windows version really shows a lot of care put into the port. For a game that seems like it really screams for a controller it is surprisingly playable with mouse and keyboard and that is what I ended up using for my playthrough.

The Bad
There is a lot of stuff to do but a lot of it is pretty much the same stuff. Also the Arkham system of fighting basically makes it impossible to get hit if you just parry or dodge at the right times. And you always get a warning when an attack is incoming making it a bit too easy.

The Bottom Line
Mad Max is the probably the greatest archetype there is for an open world game. The map is littered with points of interest which means there really is a lot to do. So if you are a completionist you really get a lot from this game. It also means that some of the things you can get boring. This makes for a game that draws very different reactions from people based on whether you find this stuff interesting. You will get a lot of playing hours from the game. And while I found most of my hours played very compelling you very well may not. Such is the nature of open world games. They offer a lot of content but may lack the more focused approach of a linear game.
