Solid, but not Superior

The Good
Tom & Jerry for the 8-bit Nintendo is a fun, if unoriginal, single player, side-scrolling platformer. Armed with an unlimited supply of marbles, Jerry battles (or avoids) various enemies and other household objects, with Tom acting as the boss at the end of each level. The graphics are nice, the game play is generally good and the ability to collect various items for extra lives, health or special weapons is helpful.

The Bad
The game's music and sound effects are strictly average and you simply want to turn the sound off. Despite the tie-in with a cartoon, the game is probably going to be too difficult for kids or novice gamers. Jerry often has to make some precise jumps and can take only a few direct hits before losing a life and using his offensive weapons is not as easy as it should be. The marbles are tossed at a slight angle and it not always easy figuring out how to properly use some of the special items, which can only be used for a limited amount of time.

The Bottom Line
Tom & Jerry is hardly the, "Ultimate" video game, but it does feature some nice graphics and, once you get past its faults, game play. The high degree of difficulty means it is probably a better suited for older, more experienced gamers, who remember watching the cartoons as a child.
