The X Factor: Interactive TV Game
Description
The X Factor: Interactive TV Game is a game for one to four players/teams. It is based on the UK TV series The X Factor, features clips from the first four series, and is hosted by Fearne Cotton who hosted the spin-off TV series The Xtra Factor in 2007.
The game is based on the TV Show's format. I has four rounds. Each round starts with a short introduction from Fearne Cotton who also presents each round's help section. Points earned in rounds one, two and three may earn lifelines in the final round. The rounds are:
-
Auditions: These represent the TV show's regional auditions in which the player(s) judge three acts based on clips from the show. Two points are earned if the player's assessment matches the judges.
-
Boot Camp: This round asks the player(s) three questions based on music knowledge and X Factor trivia. At the start of the round each player is assigned one of the following question categories Groups; 14-24 year old girls; 14-24 year old boys; 25 year old and over. Questions generally show a clip of a song being sung by X Factor contestants and the player is asked a related question such as "Who was the original artist?"; "Name the song?" and so on. If the question is answered correctly the player is asked a bonus question such as "Name the best selling group of all time?"; "Which city did the 2003 finalist X come from?"; "Name the first UK hit single/album by XXXX?". All questions are multiple choice with three possible answers.
-
Judges' Homes: This is a timed round of three questions each worth five points. Despite the title the questions are about X Factor presenters and contestants not the places they live. Questions include pixelated pictures of presenters and acts that slowly become clearer; clips of acts from the TV show that have to be named; and presenter related questions such as which acts that they managed etc.
-
Live Shows. This is the main round of the game. The player(s) are asked five questions each and can choose from Easy, Medium and Hard categories. The categories are worth one, two and three weeks (points) respectively which represents the ten week road to the TV Final.
-
If the question is answered correctly the player proceeds to the next question.
-
If the question is answered incorrectly the game shows a random clip of an X Factor contestant's performance. If that performance was good enough for the contestant to survive in the TV contest then the player can continue in the game otherwise it's 'Game Over', these are the lifelines earned in the previous rounds.
-
The objective is to score ten weeks and enter the Grand Final in which the player is asked one final question to win the game.
Players successfully answering the final question beat the game and also unlock a secret code. Entry to the competition is by text only, there was one Grand Prize comprising - backstage passes for The X Factor Live Tour of 2008, an exclusive disc, a 40" LCD TV, a home cinema sound system, a Playstation 3, a DVD player, a laptop and an mp3 player.
