Family Fortunes: The Interactive TV Game
Description
Family Fortunes is a UK TV programme based on the US show Family Feud. In the show two teams of five, usually from the same family, are asked a series of questions which had previously been asked in a survey of one hundred members of the general public. Their objective is to give the top answers that the public gave. Each answer scores points depending on the percentage of the public who gave the same answer. If a team gives three wrong answers their opponents get a chance to 'steal' the points earned so far.
In addition to the basic round, described above, there's also a 'Double Money' round, the game ends with the winning team putting forward two members who play in a timed round to try and win the game's jackpot prize in the 'Big Money'.
The DVD game follows a similar format but makes a few changes to the mechanics of the game:
-
Round One:
- Question One is always directed at Team A who have thirty seconds to write down what they consider to be the top five answers, during those thirty seconds Team B must write down a single answer. When the time is up the players reveal the correct answers one at a time and Team A score points for every correct answer they have no matter what order they wrote they were written down. The number of points scored for a correct answer, as in the TV show, depends on the number of people who gave the answer.
If Team A gives five correct answers then they win the round, and the points, outright. If an answer appears which Team A did not write down then Team B have a chance to steal the points, this happens if Team B's answer is present in the answer Team A dindn't guess or any of the remaining answers. - Question Two is the same as Question One with the question being directed to Team B.
- Question Three is a Viewer's Question round which is directed at both teams. This is a simple question with a choice of three answers. The teams select have only fifteen seconds of thinking/discussion time to make their choice and score fifty points if correct.

Round Two follows is similar to Round One:
- This round starts with a question directed at Team B and this is followed with a question directed at Team A
- Question Three is a Double Money question directed at Team A and Question 4 is a Double Money question directed at Team B
-
The game's final round, as in the TV show, is the Big Money round. In this DVD game the Big Money round is played by both teams, however the team in the lead at the start of the round gets to answer all five questions while the team in second/last place is only allowed to answer the first four.
Five questions are asked and the teams must put down just one answer to each.
At the end of the Big Money round the team with the most points wins.
The game uses random DVD technology which gives a different game each time it is played. If a previously played game is presented the player(s) can select a new game via the game's menu screen. The game does not keep score for the teams, all totals are reckoned manually.
The package includes an instruction booklet and two 'wipe clean' score cards (wipe clean for felt tip pens but not for biro or pencil). The game does not feature an on-screen presenter nor does it use the music from the TV show. It does claim to feature the famous 'Uh-Uh' wrong answer sound and uses Macrovision copy protection.
