Fan games related to the Dizzy series.

The first Dizzy fan games were created already in the 1990s. However, the most intense development began in 2006, after Alexandru and Cristina Simion created Dizzy AGE (Dizzy Adventure Game Engine) - a tool which simplified creation of new Dizzy games also for people with very little knowledge about coding. It was also more comfortable for players, because games made with Dizzy AGE run in Windows, without need for emulators. This stands in contrast to the earliest Dizzy fan games, many of which were made for ZX Spectrum - a system which is rather more complicated in emulating than DOS.

While in the latest years Dizzy AGE games have been in decline, with few game-making fans remaining, well over 100 games have been created with this engine. During its heydays so many were being made that the website about Dizzy games Yolkfolk.com used to host annual competitions for the best Dizzy AGE game.

Most Dizzy AGE games use sprites taken from ZX Spectrum versions of Dizzy, but without the limitations of that system and that period of computer development, are able to have much more sophisticated graphics. Some fan games are also very long, longer than any game from the official Dizzy series.
