Initially joining LithTech in May 2000 as VP of Internet Engineering, Rick Lambright was named Director of Online Technology at Monolith and Lead Software Engineer for the MMP project in August 2001.
At LithTech Rick was chartered with advancing the multi-player technology of the LithTech engine with a goal of supporting the creation of massively-multi-player LithWorlds. Under his direction the LithTech 3.0 engine shipped with rearchitected networking, an advanced, view-based distributed object system capable of working with high packet loss rates, an integrated relevant set mechanism, view-based extrapolative prediction, high-performance multi-threaded server I/O, and a Linux version of the standalone server.
Prior to joining LithTech, Rick was the Senior Director of Online Technology for Humongous Entertainment and Cavedog Entertainment, where he implemented the multi-player networking for Total Annihilation and led the development teams that created the Boneyards online gaming system and the GT Interactive e-commerce system.
Before joining Humongous, Rick was Network Technical Director in the entertainment division of Starwave Corporation. At Starwave, Rick designed and developed the scalable server system for Castle Infinity, one of the Internet's first graphical Massively Multi-Player games.
Rick attended the U.S. Air Force Academy and Baylor University and received his BS degree in Biology from Baylor University. He has also done graduate work in Molecular Biology and Computer Science. Rick has been awarded two U.S. patents in the area of Massively Multi-Player server technology.
