John Walker Motson, aka Motty, was an English football commentator. His career began in 1971 and he covered over 1,500 games, including all the major football championships: World Cups, FA Cups, and European Championships, for television and radio.

Motson retired from providing live television commentary in 2008. That year's Euro 2008 final was his last live television broadcast. He continued, however, to provide commentary on BBC's Match of the Day highlights.

He passed away on 23 February 2023.
