Added description to Sons of Liberty · July 4, 2000

Three of the key battles of the American War of Independence are recreated here. The British army and American patriots can be played by either human or computer (with 3 skill levels). Each side's level of reinforcements and ammunition can be set on a 5-point scale. The smallest and shortest battle is Bunker Hill, while the Battle of Monmouth is distinguished by harsh weather, and Saratoga requires a different fighting style to the highly regimented one the British unsuccessfully used.

Added description to Traitors Gate · July 1, 2000

No one has ever been able to pilfer the Crown Jewels from the Tower of London. Well, you're about to change that as you must break into the tower to steal it's precious cargo in this 1st person adventure game.

The plot centres around stopping a rogue Pentagon director who is planning to steal the jewels. As Special Agent Raven you must enter the Tower before he does and replace the Crown Jewels with a bugged replica set. This would be a simple task, but British intelligence has not been informed of your visit. You will have to break in without anyone noticing and leave again just as silently.

The format of the game is a 1st person adventure comprised of static 360-degree node clicking similar to Myst III, linked by animations with occasional cut-scenes. Gameplay is very open ended, the developers mapped the entire Tower in detail (though some of necessarily fictitious, such as the security setup) and you are given complete freedom to explore it in any way you wish. It spans 4 discs with each disc given to an area of the tower, requiring a fair amount of disc swapping as you progress.

To help you, you are given a PDA style device which allows access to a camera with e-mail system for communicating with base, and use of the various gadgets you acquire early in the game. It also helps keep track of time, an important factor in this game is that you only have about nine hours to play the game, which run in real time.

The player must stop Auric Goldfinger from taking the world's gold supply, stop the destruction of Kentucky, deal with Pussy Galore and even a fight with Oddjob. Not much for old 007 to do actually - it's all in a day's work (or is it adventure)?

Added description to Solo Flight · April 23, 2000

A simulation that has you flying Mail runs from many different airports in one of three states of America which are Kansas, Colorado and Washington (choosing Washington does allow you to fly in neighbouring state Oregon as well). Advanced features include VOR towers readings, DME and ILS.

Score for choices made meaning you must ponder certain things like how much fuel you might need for each delivery. Each mail delivered is to a different airport but the option is also there to carry several loads, each an additional weight that needs to be taken into account. Having a heavier payload means burning more fuel and a difference to how the plane handles, but potentially a higher score can result.

Various weather conditions such as clear, nightime, light cloud and even a heavy cloud that requires IFR skills. It's entirely possible to fly using just instruments in total cloud blindness up until the point you pop out of a cloud to see the runway hopefully as you had planned. Indeed an accurately planned route using both VORS can have yourself precisely lined up and ready for a final descent using ILS.

You really do need the maps though and attempting Solo Flight without them is fairly pointless - playing this seriously requires maps for VOR plotting.

Added description to Air Power: Battle in the Skies · April 20, 2000

Air Power: Battle in the Skies is set in a fantasy world in which humanity lives on one big continent. This means there has never been naval warfare and all action concentrates on aircraft. Unfortunately the king dies without leaving a heir and four factions want to rise to power - of course this means war. At the beginning of the game the player chooses one faction and which aircraft he wants to use (basically a choice between light and heavy hunter).

This is an action-oriented flight simulation with strategy elements. The goal is to get the majority of the population behind the player so he can become king. This can be achieved by conquering their cities. On an overhead map the next target settlement is chosen. Now there are three options to chose from: diplomacy (to gather the trust peacefully), besiegement or attacking. Depending on the city's importance the player has to solve several missions in optional order - the goals range from escort missions over liberating the area to destroying ground targets. Every conquered city produces reinforcements for the fleet. This is important because the fleet sets the prospect of success for diplomacy attempts and gets diminished when the player fails a mission. Another option is to attack another faction with the whole fleet - the defeated party gets eliminated.

Demon Stalkers is essentially a Gauntlet clone. You must travel through 99 mazes, before meeting the final demon. The game features different enemies as you progress through the mazes, with clues to progression built in. There's a 2-player co-operative mode. The in-built level editor uses pull-down menus, and offers a high level of flexibility. As well as creating actual levels, you can create a integrated storyline and game world, as the text on scrolls can be edited.

Added description to Lost Dutchman Mine · April 13, 2000

Lost Dutchman Mine is a simulation game that casts the player in the role of a gold miner in the 1860's. The player can freely explore a town and a vast desert, limited only by the protagonist's necessity to eat and rest. One of the game's goals is to earn money, which can be achieved by searching for gold in a river, mining for gold, or capturing wanted criminals. It is possible to buy food or catch fish with a fishing gear equipped. Hostile explorers and dangerous animals impede the protagonist's process. Location layout and characters are randomly generated each time the player begins the game.

Added description to Dream Zone · April 11, 2000

Dream Zone is a first-person adventure game. A mad scientist's elixir has turned the protagonist's dreams into reality; while in this dream state, he must fight to stay alive, leave that forsaken place, and return to the real world. The game is composed out of still screens, and the player can move between them by selecting four directions. The interaction is performed either by typing text commands or by selecting verbs bound to function keys. Among those verbs are traditional "Look", "Talk", as well as the more unorthodox commands such as "Buy" or "Hit".

Added description to The Guild of Thieves · April 10, 2000

As a beginner and inducted into the "Guild Of Thieves", you must steal your way to the top - the Guildmaster is there to not only help you, but to make your life a living hell. Worst of it all is you're STILL in the land of Kerovnia.....if something makes it look tough to solve, that's nothing for a puzzle - something else will screw it up more.

Added description to The Pawn · April 10, 2000

The aim of this interactive fiction with graphics is to escape from the land of Kerovnia, where strange occurrences are routine. The Roobikyoub dwarves have been banished from the kingdom, which is not good as they produce high-quality whisky. King Erik is not popular for this decision, as some feel that ale brewers and mineral water bottlers have influenced him. Honest John the trader and Kronos the Magician play a key role in your journey, each offering sub-quests to attempt.

The package includes a novella complete with map and decipherable hints, which are accessed by typing 'hint' followed by the code into the computer. Therefore, those with only a pirated copy would struggle to complete the game.

Your score and the number of locations visited are both displayed in the title bar. The parser allows whole words to be deleted and unaccepted previous entries to be re-edited.

Added description to Escape from Hell · April 9, 2000

For an inexplicable reason, an ordinary guy named Richard was thrown into Hell. Apparently, there has been some mistake, but it doesn't look like anyone is about to correct it - Richard's own Guardian Angel has left him a note in a telephone booth, making it clear that Richard can rely on no one but himself. The first thing he has to do is find companions (luckily, Hell seems to be a rather densely populated place), who would help him on his perilous journey through this very unpleasant place.

Escape from Hell is a role-playing game in which Richard's party navigates the top-down environments, encountering and interacting with characters, friendly and otherwise. A skill system is present, but skills need to be acquired or learned from trainers rather than increased by repeated usage. Most of the skills are combat-oriented, though some (such as hacking, swimming, and others) apply to non-combat activities.

Despite its horror premise, Escape from Hell contains many comedic elements. Many of the weapons and other accessories have funny names, much of the dialogue is humorous, and characters who join Richard's party are popular historical or fictional figures such as Stalin, Genghis Khan, Hamlet, Mozart, and others.

Added description to Keef the Thief: A Boy and His Lockpick · April 9, 2000

Play Keef the Thief, a promising young thief who finds himself on the outskirts of the Mercon the Merchant City. Considering the penalty of thievery is the removal of certain body parts, our young hero must be careful in his profession and ultimately (among others) train himself to access and steal from the city treasury.

Keef the Thief: A Boy and His Lockpick is a first-person perspective role-playing game. It has elements of parody, clearly identifiable from various descriptions in the game and enemy names during combat. One of the goals in the game is to steal everything in sight - at least in the city. The game map itself includes, beside the city, various dungeons, jungles, and an arena, among others.

The game introduces four vital elements of game play: Thievery, Adventuring, Combat, and Alchemy:

  • Thievery

The thievery element is based on the ability to disarm traps before the player can loot treasure. There are many houses or other places where the player can steal valuable objects (at least within the city walls). The higher the skills, the more options the player has to rightly pick which course the player wants to choose to disarm a trap.

  • Adventuring

When the player has stolen everything valuable from underwear to gold crowns from the city, eventually the player will have to venture outside the city into the unknown depths of the surrounding jungle. There are a lot of places that has yet to be discovered in the game. Just be sure to be well equipped with armor and weapons. Monsters have a bad habit of popping up, almost always!

  • Combat

The first-person real-time combat setting comes complete with a top-down radar indicating the player's positioning and the enemies. In the combat screen the player can melee to victory or just shoot them from a distance. That is if the player has the appropriate weapons available.

  • Alchemy

For the most part it's alchemy, though magic spells are also created through this process. Collecting ingredients is one thing, experimenting on what works is another. Sometimes the player may get lucky and find a recipe. Sometimes.

Added description to Knight Orc · April 6, 2000

Knight Orc is a text adventure with graphics. The protagonist, Gringleguts the Orc, swears revenge on all humankind for the treatment of his race. The game flows in real time; each person and creature goes on about their daily lives and follows their schedule.
