Overview edit · view history
IPS Computer Group Sp. z o.o. is a game distribution and publishing company, which first headquarters was located in the same building as International Publishing Service, at the time biggest importer of scientific literature in Poland. The company agreement was signed on 19th July 1991, but they started operating on 8th November 1991. The main goal of this company was to make a stand against piracy in Poland, what they were trying to achieve that by offering games at low price with Polish instructions. By the end of 1991 they were able to offer 15 titles from Electronic Arts, Mirror Soft, Domark and MicroProse.
In 1993 there were twelve people in the company and their distribution network in Poland consisted of five regional distributors and 200 sales points, where they delivered some of the 60 titles they managed to distribute in Poland. They also launched a series called Kolekcja Klasyki Komputerowej (later used by IM Group), where they released older titles at lower prices than usual.
In 1994, on the initiative of Grzegorz Majerowicz (co-founder of IPS Computer Group Sp. z o. o. and founder of International Publishing Service Sp. z o. o.), a parent company named LiComp was established. Before it was partially sold to EMPiK (and renamed LiComp-EMPiK-Multimedia), it was cooperating with IPS CG. In 1996, the firm hosted one of the first internet shops in Poland. On their site the company, in cooperation with M.Cz. LiComp Sp. z o. o., also published the newspaper Infomaster that informed about titles they distributed in Poland, with a few exceptions like Total Annihilation, which was distributed in Poland by LiComp-EMPiK-Multimedia Sp. z o. o.. Most of them were licensed from foreign companies, with exceptions like The Prince and the Coward and Robo Rumble.
On 26th of April 2000 there was a board meeting where members of IPS Computer Group decided to raise share capital by 100 000 zł as well as merge with Mirage Media S.C. to the new company IM Group Sp. z o.o..
