Tactical Overload
Description
Tactical Overload is an economic strategy game that plays like an online board game (digital board game). It features dynamic financial and industrial game mechanics regarding banking, stock market, real estate, currency manipulation, taxes, tariffs, zoning, retail, trading, agriculture, construction, manufacturing, transportation, and discovery. Other game mechanics include politics, social engineering, combat, crime, and piracy.
Players are able to control a family group as well as other groups such as businesses and governments. Businesses and governments can change player hands through share ownership and elections (or coups). Each family group has a number of characters each with their unique skill set. More skills can be unlocked by advancing in technology and education. Characters can also form cultures which is a separate element than governments, and adds another layer of strategy that leads to cultural cooperation and competition. There is also a 4th type of group known as covert groups. These appear to other players as normal groups, but are often used for espionage, organized crime, and piracy.
Each lot has 2 ownership statuses, normal ownership and sovereignty. Governments can be declared when groups claim sovereignty over a lot on the map. The group that has sovereign power over one or more lots are able to set zoning, taxes, tariffs, and laws. Like regular ownership sovereignty can also change hands. This enables players to start revolutions against sovereign groups that they don't want in power.
The monetary and financial aspect to the game is optional but powerful. Players can completely ignore these features if they want, but they can also utilize them to add to their strategic leverage. Corporations can raise funds by selling shares or bonds to groups controlled by other players, and all types of groups can sell bonds. This combined with the game's industrial element can lead to strategically dynamic gameplay as player companies create farms, factories, laboratories, marts, hospitals, and other buildings as well as a wide range of vehicles.
