Overview edit · view history
SDL International is one of the largest localization, recording and translation service companies in the world.
The company was formed in 1992 by Mark Lancaster in order to take advantage of the growing demand for localization services in software and other applications.
The company continued to grow during the 1990's, and SDL opened many branch offices. The first of which was in France, followed by Japan, China, and two locations in the United States. By the year 2000, SDL had 12 branches.
SDL aggressively acquired competing localization companies as well as those which could bring translation technology to the table. In 2004, the company introduced their Knowledge-based Translation System (KbTS), new software technology which streamlines the translation process.
Including the corporate office in Maidenhead UK, in 2009 SDL International owns 50 branch offices in more than 30 countries.
