Roads & Rivers of Europe
Description
Roads & Rivers of Europe is a terrain feature add-on for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004.
The purpose is to correctly show roads and rivers in the European area of the Flightsimulator's default terrain.
This is done by replacing the line vectors for some of the default road and river network with more accurate versions from real-world Navteq GPS-based coordinates used with car navigation systems, using an accuracy of 15m. The add-on replaces the line-drawn default road/river network, except in some areas where the default minor rivers can be shown as overlapping/parallel, where these are re-classified as major rivers, duplicating some river paths.
The main use of this add-on is to make the geographical features more like the real world map, and help with VFR navigation below 10.000 feet, as most ground referencing navigation features are only useful from low altitudes where they can be identified by eyesight. The ideal height for using this add-on for navigation would be between 2.000-4.000 feet, as going lower will show some anomalies. In addition to the road/river changes, some, but not all, 3D buildings/bridges are moved when needed to fit new river positions.
The vector based roads/rivers will not show in areas where other photo-realistic images are used for VFR enhanced terrain, as these take higher priority in the flight simulator scenery.
In addition to the VFR scenery changes, the JustFlight DVD version also contains a digital catalogue with some demos and free samples from their other titles; e.g. a couple of aircraft, and a bit of extra scenery to be used for aerobatics training. A few of their other titles are also included in full, though encrypted, with options to purchase keys online to unlock their content.
