Description

Yet again earth is under attack by the slimelords of Xtharrgg. The positive is that a few of the very latest Vorton Hyper X-13 UltraStarfighters are at hand, the negative, the only pilot good enough to fly them is you!

Super Grid Runner is an iteration of the Centipede inspired 8-bit Gridrunner and Matrix: Gridrunner 2 for the 16-bit platforms of the day.

The fighting again takes place on an "abstracted geometric" grid, The player controls a spacecraft that moves around the grid, blasting the alien invaders coming from the edges of the screen in segmented snake-like formations. Once a segment is destroyed, it turns into a pod that will, if left alone will again turn into an indestructible lethal bomb that falls down towards the bottom.

Adding to the impending doom, indestructible rail guns patrol the borders of the screen taking potshots at the player's craft. At the start of the game the craft has the "nosecone" part of it detached and stationary on the grid. The cone fires single shots upwards, but if shot at it will triple the incoming shots and the angle of these shots can even be altered by the player. The nosecone can be merged again with the ship to be dropped off at another location. Various bonuses drop from the defeated aliens, in the form of camelids and bovidae in true Minter fashion.

When a life is lost, the level resets and starts anew, however the player has the option to commit suicide when death is inevitable. This results in a life loss, but the level continues, your craft becomes invulnerable for 10 seconds and all enemies on screen are turned into bonuses that fall down
