Worms 4: Mayhem
Description official descriptions
Worms 4: Mayhem is a sequel to Worms 3D. Like its predecessor, it is a turn-based artillery variant with humorous themes and weapons, in which players control small armies of worms. The gameplay is similar to that of the previous game, adding a more developed Story mode, in which the player cooperates with the wise Professor Worminkle, who can use a time machine to travel to different time periods such as American Old West, ancient Arabia, and Prehistoric Age.
In this installment, players can customize the appearance of their worms, including helmets, glasses, facial hair, gloves, etc. A new mode called "Weapon Factory" has been added, allowing players to forge their own weapons. The game also contains a shop where players can purchase various items, using points accumulated by completing story missions or unlocking trophies. Shop items include new maps, accessories, outfits, character voices, etc.

The Good
First of all, I've been a Worms specialist for ages.
Worms games are great games, usually.
But now, Worms 3D and Worms Forts fail to meet the medium.
If you say Worms 4, then you're talking about a great improvement on the first two 3D Worms games.
Greater engine and physics, no crashing, much more fun than Forts.
The Bad
Frankly, there is always a part of a game that you don't like.
The graphics.
Okay, they're better than Worms 3D/Forts, but they still look like low polygon models. Otherwise, great game.
The Bottom Line
Very good, great with friends.
Buy or Rent?
I say buy!

Worms 3D + bunch of insignificant tweaks = Worms 4
The Good
In comparison with Worms 3D this game contains some new weapons, like sentry gun, mine factory or fat kid.
During the gameplay you can receive trophies. Trophies are given for many achievements, like collecting enormous amount of weapon crates or killing a group of worms with single sheep.
Moreover, after completing every mission you earn some virtual money. You can buy with them new hats for your worms, maps or weapons.
Your team is highly customizable - you can change look of your worms (they can wear hats, gloves, glasses and moustache), their special weapon (which you can create) and other things, such as their flag, grave, speech etc.
Team17 also added to the game a weapon factory and some new game types for multiplayer.
The Bad
Despite presence of new weapons I can guarantee that you will mostly use shotgun, bazooka and grenade. Those novelties are rare and not so powerful like good old Holy Hand Grenade.
Most of players will probably buy every map and weapon, but later they won't buy anything more. Why? Because after buying every map and weapon there are only new hats and speeches are left, and they mostly aren't worth buying.
Weapon factory is very limited - you can create only your own bazooka, grenade and air-raid. Moreover, your weapons cannot be very powerful - there's an indicator which tells you if your gun is too powerful and won't let you save it, unless you decrease it's strength.
Team17 also limited possibilities of map generator in multiplayer, without any rational reason. Some new features like teleports, gas barrels, and mine factories are rather annoying. Graphics and sounds aren't very different from Worms 3D, released two years earlier.
The Bottom Line
If you don't have Worms 3D, you will be pleased with this game. It's very good to play it with friend. However, if you bought Worms 3D earlier, think twice - there aren't many differences between these two games.
