aka: Demon Car "The Next Generation"
Moby ID: 186185

Description

Once upon a time in the far future the world was ruled by an evil overlord who liked killing and driving cars. Eventually he became bored with both so he combined the two, thus creating 'The Demon Car' and happily drove around killing as many people as he could. Eventually he died and his son took over as king. The new king had the 'The Demon Car' upgraded ad he happily followed his father's example.

The new king eventually grew old but had no queen and no children. Who was to succeed him? He came up with a plan, whoever could drive is demon car the best would take the throne.

Thus begins the game. The player has been summoned to show their skill, and complete disregard for human life, by driving the demon car and killing as many serfs as possible within a limited time. The game is keyboard controlled and is played on a single screen. People pop up randomly and the player's job is to run them down. Once hit their target it turns into a cross which then becomes an obstacle in the race to find the next victim, as the game progresses the number of crosses grows and the game becomes harder.

The game has four skill settings, a high score table and a choice of screen sizes.

Trivia

About that tag-lined title

Throughout the game the title used is Demon Car and this is completely consistent apart from the first screen which calls the game "Demon Car - "The Next Generation". The explanation for this may lie in the game's help file where the developer states they originally wrote this game for the Commodore VIC-20. The game was later rewritten many times for DOS but, in the developer's words: ...none of them captured the same feeling as the first one until this Windows version.
