Well, it's clear, they invented Tomb Raider, but without Lara and all her jumping around something is lost, though the game in appealing and you will hardly dump it, the darkness and the feeling you're actually going to discover something will keep you playing for some hours even if you had other taks to accomplish. It's not a success but it works, though being took out of a movie doesn't really add anything to the game.. so if you did like the movie don't care about this one, if you love the third person genre, here you may have found something for you.

The Mummy's challenging and exciting but let down by some niggling flaws, which detract from the overall experience. Still worth a crack though if you've had it with Lara (so to speak).

The Mummy isn't necessarily a poor game, it's just been done before, several times. The movie was charming and entertaining in it's own right, but this game has formula written all over it. It was designed by the book, with very few surprises to speak of. The puzzles are generic, as are most of the action elements. The usual third-person control and camera issues are present and besides the decent sound, there's not a whole lot to brag about in this game. With the collection of third-person games currently available on the market, there's no way I can recommend such a formulaic effort.

The roughest spots in The Mummy are the areas in which it tries to break up the action by introducing different gameplay elements. In one of these areas, you find yourself floating on a log on the Nile, jumping over or ducking under different obstacles. Since the draw-in distance is very limited, you often need to start a jump before an object actually appears in order to clear it entirely, which will cause you to go through a few lives rather quickly. In another spot, you jump over rolling pillars and avoid raging flames in a side-scrolling perspective similar to Pitfall 3D's. The placement of these different elements in the game is admirable, but their execution is extremely flawed. If it weren't for these segments, The Mummy could have been either a good rental or a great gift for a younger brother, but they drag down what is otherwise an oftentimes surprisingly playable game.

I have this little part of me that wants to really like The Mummy. I'm pretty sure it's the little kid inside of me that just loves games no matter what phenomenal problems the game has. I can't help it, but I do like parts of the mummy, and yet I very difficult time recommending it to anyone. It's really a simple action game all dressed up in a clunky 3D outfit, but parts of it are almost fun. There are a good amount of weapons to pick up and use, there are tons of artifacts and power-ups, and it's got all of the trappings of a good adventure, just none of the imagination, good gameplay, or polish. It's too bad, because if any movie was made to be a potentially good videogame, it's The Mummy.

If you aren't going to be timely, you should at least be good, and The Mummy is neither. I haven't seen a belated game translation this bad since Blues Brother 2000 turned platformers into a pixilated version of bamboo shoots under the fingernails. Bad mummy. Bad mummy.

The Mummy is a licensed game that isn't terrible, which is rare, and with a few tweaks, it could have been a fine way to waste some time on a slow afternoon. Thanks to a few problems that could have been corrected in development, it now has the feel of an unfinished, poorly tested game, and while Mummy die-hards might find some enjoyment wrapped up in its oozing bandages, most gamers will want to take a pass.

There’s a scene in the film in which Imhotep is wrapped in gauze, mummified and entombed with dozens of scarab beetles. To be blunt, the game fails to improve on that experience. Here is a product that never should have been released on the PC, in part because it exploits none of the features possible on computers, such as saving at will, better graphics and configurable controls. Even as a console title, one would have to argue that The Mummy is uninspired. From the drab visuals to the simplistic AI to the repetitive maps, Rebellion created nothing thrilling or exciting. This one is a head-scratching, mind-boggling addition to their otherwise brilliant resume. It also comes across as a cheap, desperate attempt cash in on the two-year-old movie as well as Eidos’ superior franchise. I still love slapping down the undead, but no longer believe that a game can’t be all-bad if it lets me indulge in this treasured pastime.

How have I completed this game in such a short while and what inspired me to play it in the first place? I guess I'll never now. I didn't see the movie, so I definitely wasn't inspired that way. Perhaps I enjoyed the constant action; on the other hand the enemies are too monotonous and recurring to hold your interest. The game dynamics have been improved with a symphonic-orchestra kind of background movie music; unfortunately, the themes cycle and will very soon start to annoy you. Anyway, to summarize, I seriously advise against buying this game, particularly if you've enjoyed the movie. So for all you Mummy fans out there, and for anyone of human species, don't play this one; you don't need the aggravation.

Sometimes it's amazing to see just how low a game can go and still make it to the market. From the moment you gain control of Rick O’Connell and watch the pathetically bad animations, you know this game should have never surfaced from the bowels of the hell from which it came. The Mummy is so horrendous, that it’s almost…almost…worth renting to just to sit around and laugh at it with your friends.

Ultimately, this game is a movie rip-off perpetrated by greedy execs who are certain that the people who enjoyed the movie will be intrigued enough to shell out for this stinker. No doubt the true Imhotep is presently trying to kick a hole in his sarcophagus lid to get at the Konami programmers who have blasphemed his name by attaching it to this abomination. After he's done with them, maybe we can convince him to go after the makers of Blade, Crow: City of Angels and Space Jam.

The Good
A normal and easy one but full of adventure. The weapons scheme is very good. And the enemies are really from the ancient times. It gives an enjoyment as wondering in ruins.
The Bad
There is nothing I dislike about it.
The Bottom Line
Play and enjoy your adventure to ancient period and defeat the mummies. Use your ancient weapons against the ancient enemies. Play the bonus levels to increase your life. So long playing the ancient idols also increases your life. You will really enjoy your adventure in ruins.

The Good
This is a game based on a movie and as such it benefits from excellent music and a cinematic introduction.
It loaded and played well under Windows XP and gave me no problems at all
The Bad
I played the game on the maximum resolution, 1200x1600x32 and thought the graphics were still too blocky. I know this is an old game, thirteen years old as I write this, but I'm sure that games of this period generally looked smoother.
The keyboard and mouse controls are non-standard. The mouse or arrows can steer and the left button or space bar can be used to strike/fire which is OK, but using Q & E to display weapons felt clumsy.
There were a couple of times when the game's point of view lost the character, this happened mainly when the character was in a corner or close to a wall, and at one point it cost a life because I didn't get to see my attacker.
The Bottom Line
This game is a bit like a Tomb Raider clone with lots of running around, killing bad guys and collecting stuff. The character is a bit blocky for my taste but generally the game plays well and has good music.
