The worst entry in the "Comanche" series is still decent enough.

The Good
- Fly the Comanche or the Hokum helicopters.

  • Very accessible for casual players.

  • Plenty of missions, scenarios and enemies.

  • Very good atmosphere.

The Bad
- The graphics are very pixelated even for the time.

  • Music is too strident.

  • Gameplay is repetitive.

The Bottom Line
This is the second entry on the "Comanche" series by NovaLogic. As of today (January 2007), the series consists on four titles, as follow:

  • Comanche - Maximum overkill

  • Werewolf vs Comanche

  • Comanche 3 or Comanche Gold (enhanced edition)

  • Comanche 4

Since the Comanche helicopter program has been cancelled, newer entries on the saga seem highly unlikely.

Anyway, this is the second game in the series and it's probably the worst of the lot. Not that it is THAT bad. Fans of the series or casual players who enjoy simplified combat simulator will have a ball with this one. The real problem is how few it improves on the original game in the series, released two years before.

Sure, there are lots of new missions, and you can play on the Russian counterpart, the Werewolf, as well, but the missions are more or less the same: blow up X numbers of enemy Y and go home. It's quite exciting, and flying through the detailed terrain model, with canyons and riverbeds it's a lot of fun, but after a while it gets old too early.

And there's the graphics. The original "Comanche" was pixelated, but it still had its appeal. Here they've tried to get as many things on screen at the same time as possible, and the Voxel engine is exactly the same as before. Not a simple enhancement in two years! Yawn.

So it's an OK game, but after a while you'll be thinking: Haven't I done this before? Wasn't it more exciting back then? In the end the problem with "Werewolf vs Comanche" is essentially the same than with many other sequels: it may be bigger, but it is not better.

Note: This is an old game, so unless you're still using MS-DOS or Windows 9X you're only chances of making it work are MS-DOS emulators like DOSBox or Virtual PC.
