Description official descriptions

Aliens Versus Predator 2: Primal Hunt chronicles the initial breach leading up to the events in Aliens Versus Predator 2, specifically, the destruction of Research Pod 5. The story takes place across nine total mission, with three per species (Predator, Predalien, and Corporate). Each of the three playable characters is out to retrieve a mysterious artifact with the power to confuse and repel the Aliens.

New features in the game include the ability to play as a tougher Predator-Alien hybrid in single and multiplayer, a new "energy flechette" weapon for the Predator, and a new 360-degree motion tracker and deployable sentry guns for the humans. Multiplayer includes four new Deathmatch maps and the ability for the Predator to activate a short range self-destruct bomb when nearly defeated.

A copy of the original Aliens Versus Predator 2 is required to play Aliens Versus Predator 2: Primal Hunt.

An interesting story, but lacking in gameplay

The Good
AvP2: Primal Hunt takes a note from the original game and adds an interconnected storyline told this time through the corporate mercenary, Dunya, an ancient Predator, and the Predalien you fight in the first game. The story connects rather well and was primarily the main reason I played through the game. While some of the dialogue is poorly delivered, they did an overall great job of linking the expansion to the original game. The new weapons are an interesting feature, but the new multiplayer maps are possibly the best new "feature" added in the expansion. The addition of the Predalien campaign is also a great deal of fun as well.

The Bad
The designers seemed to feel that AvP2 was too slow, and decided to throw more aliens at you. The problem is they throw too many at you. Rebellion and Fox Interactive had the right idea, by having aliens use scare tactics, or appearing when you least expect it. In the Corporate campaign, aliens are literally swarming you at every turn, most of them the incredibly fast and hard to hit "runner" aliens. Much of the time you will run out of ammo with your primary weapons and be forced to use the dual pistols or shotgun. The designers also felt to add enemies at very strange intervals, such as an egg nest at the top of an elevator that will likely get you killed instantly, and an unexpected praetorian that can kill you quite fast if you don't have the correct weapon already selected. The Predator campaign feels very similar, and the flechette gun seems to have been added only to combat the now almost endless swarms of aliens attacking you. The game feels like it was made as more of a challenge mode to the original game than an expansion.

The Bottom Line
If you enjoy the AvP series as a whole and would like more storyline for the second game, I would suggest giving this a single play through for storyline only. However, I would recommend plain AvP2 or even the original AvP by Rebellion for fans looking for a much more enjoyable game experience.

Aliens versus Predator 2 Primal Hunt Unfairly Criticized

The Good
This game was absolutely brilliant and unfairly criticized! The new additions were superb! The ancient Predator looks absolutely great! I also have to say that adding sentry guns is brilliant. I cant understand why they werent on aliens versus predator games before, as they were in the film Aliens and they are really fun to watch wile they are in action. Being the predalien is really fun so much better than a normal alien as the Predalien headbites look superb! A hard part of the game and fun part was, sneaking around predators as a face hugger that was very cool! Another good feature is, finally blood spurts onto the screen and that is much better!! It makes it seem you are right in the thick of things!

The Bad
The only bad points were there wasnt enough levels and the Predator missions were far too easy for me, as i am an advanced player. I have heard a lot of people say the fear effect had been taken away. Well i do agree as the Corprate missions are no way as scary as the marine missions on Aliens versus Predator 2! The alien and predator missions were never that scary so these missions still have the same feel!

The Bottom Line
I am a die hard fan thats probably why i liked it! But i do recommend it even for fans who aren't as into the series as me as the graphics are great, the weapons are superb and you cant beat being the Predator, cloaking, stalking your pray and using his great range of weapons is brilliant! Yes there arent that many levels but its more than a challenge for players who havent played the series before! And when u are stalked by the predator you cant beat it in any game, you know ur heading for trouble, when you hear him breathing and you know he is close by! You are just waiting for the imminent confrontation!! BUY IT NOW!!!!

No Smoking

In the last mission of the Predator series, there is a cutscene where the player's character sneaks into the research complex by ripping off a heavy doorplate labeled "No Smoking."

In the last mission of the Corporate series, there is a cutscene with two soldiers complaining about their boring guard duty. One steps away to have a smoke, and is ironically squashed by the falling "No Smoking" doorplate.

Multiplayer servers

The official multiplayer servers (which were hosted on GameSpy) were shut down on 1 November 2008.
