Maxit
- Maxit (1978 on Commodore PET/CBM, 1982 on DOS, 1983 on Commodore 64)
Description
Maxit is a single-player, freeware game in which the player competes with the computer. The game's documentation details the history of the game which the author first saw on a Philips P2000T, an early home computer of the 1980's, other versions were later released for other platforms.
The game is played on an 8x8 grid. Each cell has numbers in it and players take turns selecting cells and adding the number from that cell to their score. At the end of the game the player with the highest score wins. The game decides the starting point and the first player selects their chosen cell from the same row, the next player selects their cell from the same column as the cell selected by the previous player. The game continues with players taking turns selecting numbers from rows and then columns until all cells are used or there is no onward move from the last cell selected.
With a classic game like this there are often additions or improvements with each incarnation, here the difference between this game and the original is the inclusion of an 'Advanced' level of difficulty.
