Take a spoonful of Diablo, pour a cup of Halo, pepper on some Fallout, stir in a pint of Left 4 Dead, and you have Borderlands. Kaddy B. (796) 3.86 Stars3.86 Stars3.86 Stars3.86 Stars3.86 Stars

As we mentioned at the start, genetics are a funny thing but Gearbox has managed to deliver the plucky child of two proud parents: the loot-whoring RPG/MMO and the tight, combat-focused FPS – successfully combining the character, guts and style of both. It’s also one of the best games this year, and everyone should play it.
IGN (Oct 19, 2009)
Gearbox's Borderlands is without a doubt a slick, satisfying hybrid title for those who know what to expect. If you're a shooter fan curious what the world of Pandora is all about, then you should know that this is a product built on a foundation of statistical progression, character customization, and one that holds item acquisition high above interesting quest structure and narrative. At the same time, it plays like a shooter, requiring twitch skills to dominate the droves of enemies that stand in between you and your search for a mysterious vault. With the opportunity for up to four to join together for co-operative play, four character classes, a dizzying array of firearms, around 20 or so hours of content for a single playthrough and the option to restart with stronger enemies and loot, there's plenty of content here. It's a thoroughly enjoyable journey that offers a steady stream of rewards that remains convenient and accessible.

Borderlands has more weaknesses than strengths, but the few strengths it has absolutely overwhelm most of the problems the game has. It taps into the base instinct of wanting to reach that one level, to find that elusive item you’ve been tracking for what seems like your entire life, and, once you do find it, you only want to find more. It’s a dangerous game in the sense that it can absolutely destroy your free time, but it’s also great in the sense that it can absolutely destroy your free time. Forget about spending just a few minutes with the game, and just lose yourself in Borderlands for an hour. Or three.
RPGFan (Nov 08, 2009)
In short, Borderlands is a top-quality shooter and grind-fest. There's not much that's new about it, and it's not without its flaws. If you're willing to take down a horde of enemies just to see that "Level Up!" icon or for that shiny new drop, Borderlands will be right up your alley. Even if you're not the kind of gamer that's fond of the grindy loot-fest, Borderlands' co-op play makes it great fun no matter what. Unless you absolutely just abhor twitch-based titles, Borderlands should start spinning in your game system soon - unless it's already there.

GameSpot (Oct 30, 2009)
After you uncover the secrets of the Vault, you are once again set loose into Pandora, where you are free to quest on and remember why you enjoyed your previous hours with the game. Borderlands has tens of hours of quests to fulfill, and you'll likely find yourself enticed back to explore new skills, find new guns, and kill more enemies. Though the core action doesn't change drastically over the course of the game, it is woven together in such a way that once it ensnares you, you'll want nothing more than to plunge into Pandora at any chance you get. Combat is satisfying, and upgrading your skills and equipment is engaging. The constant stream of loot and experience is rewarding, and sharing it with some friends makes the experience that much richer and more exciting. Despite its hostile (albeit stylish) environment, Pandora is a great planet to visit if you want to shoot some stuff. Just be sure to bring some friends along for the ride.

You'll likely hear an abundance of other reviewers touting the four-player co-op mode as the game's best feature, and it's just one more piece of what makes Borderlands a surprisingly fun affair. Playing with friends often leads to some hilarious moments, but I vastly preferred playing solo, as the slower-paced single-player game allowed me to thoroughly consider each loot drop. The accessible nature of Borderlands -- with its relatively non-punitive deaths, constant checkpoints, and convenient fast-travel systems -- makes it a fantastic game for introducing FPS fans to some basic RPG tropes. And, most importantly, the killing and looting never ceases to be fun.

Borderlands is unusual, playable, and an artfully violent step in an interesting direction for Gearbox. The story aspect of the game could have been better - I'd love to have seen the role-playing influence extend beyond stats, levels and loot - and the ending is a disappointment. Even so, this should be a favourite game of the year for a huge number of people, since it plugs into gamer impulses at such a fundamental level. We blow things up and collect the goodies. That part, at least, Gearbox has nailed.
Cheat Happens (Nov 03, 2009)
Borderlands is a unique and original experience that is engaging and unique for each player. With its unique cell-shaded, comic book style visuals and genre bending gameplay, you won’t find anything like Borderlands this holiday season, just don’t go in by yourself or expecting an engaging storyline.
Factornews (Nov 30, 2009)
RPGFan (Dec 08, 2009)
Borderlands is a commodity and nothing more, and that was precisely what Gearbox intended. That sort of soullessness drains the industry of half its worth, it compromises the artistic dimension, and I'm not okay with that. Borderlands is a decent game, greatly fun at times, but I don't respect it. I'll never respect a game made to cater to the public, a game packed as full as possible with mechanisms designed solely to create an addiction in as many gamers as possible. But, that's not to say Borderlands isn't worth playing for a few hours when you can't help but desire some mindless fun. Just keep an eye on your brain cells.

Borderlands to tytuł dla Was.

Thunderbolt Games (Mar 23, 2010)
Borderlands has a lot of growing to do. The concept is strong, but in execution, it just doesn’t work very well. Borderlands is too often boring and shallow, with cumbersome menus, a useless weapons gimmick and limited in-game communication. The game gets neither the first-person shooter aspects nor the multiplayer mechanics right. This leaves fans of either frustrated as they search for what are basic features in other products and feelings of frustration aren’t conducive to the long playtime needed to see the game to the end. Borderlands definitely has potential, but the developers need to significantly refine and streamline any sequel to get me back on board.
