A subgenre of shooters (most often first-person) in which players are placed in an enclosed map (an arena of sorts) and can win by fighting each other and having the most frags (kills) in a certain period of time, by reaching the frag limit first, or having some other point-based objective (e.g. Capture the Flag and Domination modes). The game modes in these titles can be individual or team-based.

While most titles exclusively feature game modes associated with the term (playable offline or online), some titles feature singleplayer campaigns with conventional objective types. Both are accepted in this group.
