Imagine a man. Now imagine he has a face; not a great face, but it's there. Imagine he is working 8 hours a day in dead-end retail, and suddenly one day decides to go out on a limb and apply to be a QA tester in Realtime Worlds, Dundee. There begins the roughly 10 year career of Dave Gallacher, spanning many countries and many different facets of the games industry.
Starting his career working on the short-lived "A.P.B. (All Points Bulletin)", Dave quickly worked his way into a niche as a man with a habit for outside-the-box thinking, even winning an exceptionally large mouse mat in a "Best bug" competition. But it wasn't all free mouse mats and energy drinks, with a less than favourable release and a company in administration, his next move was to almost literally go as far away from where he was as humanly possible. Melbourne, Australia. Therein he secured a position in the THQ subsidiary Blue Tongue Studios working on the colourful adventure platformer De Blob 2. But administration for the company once again reared its ugly head, and with the collapse of THQ, he then found himself in Firemint Studios (latterly becoming EA Firemonkeys) working on multiple top tier App store titles including "Real Racing 2/2HD" and SPY Mouse.
But with the end of his working visa quickly approaching, a little birdie notified him of a position in his home city, working in Rockstar North on GTAV. However after roughly 11 months of faceless, nameless grind, and a frankly woeful contract cutting process (which he survived), he decided to leave (and was subsequently omitted from the credits. Yes, lovely place), this time in favour of Swedish shores. Colleagues from his Realtime Worlds days had notified him of positions in Avalanche studios, which he then jumped into as QA engineer on Mad Max.
After a strong 3 or so years, Dave decided it was time to move onwards and upwards, finding an opportunity as QA Project Manager at EA DICE, working on both Mirror's Edge: Catalyst and Battlefield 1, where he remains to this day. Older, chubbier, balder, but significantly better paid!
