A good diversion... not much more
The Good
As is appropriate for a good diversion, the learning curve for this game is as easy as they come. A quick glance at the keyboard settings and you're all set to start playing. Controls are, of course, exactly what you'd expect them to be.
Similarly to most games of its genre, once you're in - you're hooked. It's very hard to stop playing. You get a decent amount of lives and credits, and so you're guaranteed to venture quite far in the game, even on your first play.
Basically - it's got all the basic qualities a game of its kind needs.
The Bad
The graphics aren't all that spectacular. Add to that unimaginative music and mundane shoot-em-up sound effects, and you'll get a game that's quite mediocre from a technical standpoint.
Also, the game isn't nearly as rich and immersing as classics such as Tyrian or Raptor. There's not much sophistication in the enemies, background graphics, or surrounding story.
The Bottom Line
Unfortunately the game hasn't got anything BUT the basic qualities a game of its kind needs. It's good as a game to keep around for when you have 20 minutes to burn and haven't got anything better to do, but you'll forget about it quickly after playing.
