Description
Star Command is a variant of the mainframe game Star Trek. You control the starship Enterprise. Your continuing mission: to seek out and destroy attacking Klimzon vessels before a time-limit runs out.
The main screen shows two views of this part of the galaxy. The top view is the long range scan, which shows a grid of quadrants. Explored areas and anything within range of the long range scanners are represented by three numbers: the number of klimzons, the number of your bases, and the number of stars. Unexplored regions are represented by hashes. The bottom view is the short range scan, and shows the sectors within the current quadrant. Asterisks are stars, the Enterprise is an E, Klimzons are K and bases are B.
There are numerous options for controlling your starship. Movement is accomplished by selecting either Warp Drive for long range travel, or Impulse Drive for movement within the quadrant. The course is selected as the angle clockwise from galactic North in degrees, followed by the distance to travel. Landing on top of a base will re-supply your energy, shield and torpedoes, after which the base disappears.
Landing in a quadrant containing Klimzons will take you to the battle screen. Here, you can select a weapon to fire. Torpedoes require you to specify an angle of fire, and will only cause damage if it collides with a ship. It may take up to three direct hits to take down a fully capable Klimzon war vessel. Phasers can be used to attack multiple vessels. The amount of damage done by phasers depends on the amount of power used, which may be varied. More powerful phaser attacks will deplete your energy faster. You may also move, again by specifying a heading and then moving forwards in that direction. This may allow you to dodge your opponent's torpedoes.
The game ends when either time runs out, or your ship is destroyed.
