If you enjoyed Ultimate Destruction, picking this one up should be a no-brainer. It’s a polished version of that last-gen gem that, though lacking some of the humour, makes up for it with an extensive system of unlocks. Hulk fans will also get a kick out of the unlockable skins, though it would have been nice to see each skin have different abilities. I’d love to see a sequel, made without the constraints of a movie license, that offers up more classic Hulk villains and less generic foot soldiers.

By the end of it, I came to actually prefer this Hulk game overall. Is it better than Ultimate Destruction in some absolute sense? Maybe, maybe not; it's certainly debatable. While Spider-Man 3 might have had a somewhat better-looking and more accurate Manhattan, the frame rate in The Incredible Hulk is more solid, except for brief rare occasions when you're literally leveling several blocks of the city simultaneously. Also, once you've stomped a mile in Hulk's shoes, navigating NYC by swinging on webs feels positively pedestrian. Sure, it has some problems (lock-on, targeting, getting stuck in the air on objects), but they weren't nearly enough to stop me from finishing it and grabbing every last collectible. I expect to play it more, too, as there's nothing like smashing a city by hand to unwind after a stressful day at the office.

The Incredible Hulk for the Xbox 360 and the PS3 is a decent middle-of-the-road game. While it does have some very fun parts, including interesting action, and significant entertainment value in destroying massive skyscrapers and notable landmarks, the fun of these acts is reduced to rubble when you come across annoying glitches. Very poor graphics, slowdowns and frame rate stutters. Luckily most of the problems are either infrequent or can be overlooked if you are looking for a brief, fun, and destructive romp through New York. If you’re the kind of person who’d enjoy that, then I would recommend renting or purchasing this game, but if you are looking for a deep, engrossing action game, then move one as this game is not for you.

As far as movie based games go, The Incredible Hulk is better than most in recent memory. As far as comic based games go, it's not bad either. Still, when compared to the last Hulk game, it feels like the game's already been done before, and on the last generation of consoles as well. For fans of Ultimate Destruction, the game may come across as a knock-off of what felt like a truly unique experience. On the other hand, if you've never played Ultimate Destruction, or if you have and just are itching to relive that experience on the 360, The Incredible Hulk is easily worth taking a look at.

For a movie-based game, The Incredible Hulk is an enjoyable experience, when things work correctly. Technical problems plague audio, visual and gameplay aspects, wholly detracting from a game with a nothing-special mission structure. For all of its faults, however, the essence of Hulk's strength and abilities have been captured and portrayed fairly well, with open-world destructibility at hand.

Perhaps this is due to the game being rushed out to coincide with the film's release, but whatever the reasoning behind it, The Incredible Hulk just doesn't quite seem finished. There is undoubtedly fun to be had, leaping around the city causing all manner of destructive mayhem, but it's ultimately disposable. You've essentially seen the best the game has to offer in the first couple of hours of gameplay. The game really could have come into its own online, but sadly there is no multiplayer element at all. The prospect of two Hulks laying waste to New York City as they battle it out is a tantalising one (next-gen Rampage?). Sadly, those who purchase The Incredible Hulk will be faced with a short, easy, frustratingly messy single player game that hardly justifies its retail price.

I was really looking forward to this game as I was expecting it to be a great follow-up to Ultimate Destruction. The game has major issues. The graphics aren't that great and the realism is non-existent, the voice acting is plain awful and boring and the freezing/frame-rate issues are inexcusable. However, the game can be fun in the Crackdown-esque city romps. But alas, you can't just jump around the city forever and once you're done treasure-hunting, the terrible story and poor missions come calling. Definitely only a rental at best, but for fans of the Hulk I'd still suggest you give it a shot.

Much like the Hulk is both the best and worst that Bruce Banner has become, Sega's The Incredible Hulk shares the same problem. Running around as a green, humanoid wrecking ball in New York's sandbox of steel and concrete castles can be fun for a while until it starts feeling like a repetitive exercise in dealing with missions that try and enlist the Hulk as a nanny for stolen gear or have him destroy yet another group of bad guys who don't have the good sense to stay out of his way. Throw in the shoddy performance of the engine that dogs the repetitive gameplay at nearly every turn, and it can easily become an experience that can get your own blood boiling. Fans of the film or of the Hulk in general will probably get the most gamma dosage from this title, but even they might find that it works better as a weekend experiment.

Again, Hulk isn't a bad game. It's instantly more fun than the recent slew of misguided Iron Man titles, maniacally satisfying if you enjoy wrecking havoc, and would likely sate those looking to extend their Hulk experience after watching the latest flick. A ton of side missions offer varying entertainment value, plenty of doodads to collect and power Hulk up with, and even a few cool alternate character skins for the green guy to wear. But I can't just quietly ignore the fact that a similar, but far better Hulk game (the best superhero game, for my money) sits on my shelf at home, and is readily available for anyone to track down. So be a hero and support an old gem if you're really in the mood to smash something.

Overall there is something to be said for a game where more fun is to be had outside the mission storyline then in it, like some of the GTA series. But this title just can't seem to get everything in the right perspective, whilst some enjoyment can be had, there just isn't enough care taken elsewhere. The type of game they have produced isn't really aimed at the age group it's been set at, I would say the BBFC 12 rating is the ragged edge of the target audiences age group . If you are a huge Hulk fan however, you may just like it, but I'm afraid a rental is the best bet for this title.

For a movie-based game, The Incredible Hulk tries hard to be a competent game on the Wii, but its hardware is just too weak to take such a game and keep it on par with at least the Xbox offering. Poorly realized on the Wii with boring environments, audio, visual and gameplay aspects, there's really not much past a rental here. For all of its faults, however, it's hard to completely knock Edge of Reality for what was most likely a tight development cycle for a multi-platform game. Though simplified, there is still potential for the Hulk on the Wii, just not this time.

In the end, The Incredible Hulk is like so many Hollywood Summer blockbusters: It starts with a cool idea (Hulk destroying stuff) but, from there, grinds to a halt in terms of delivering on its promise. I won't say it's a bad game, because you can get a couple hours of fun out of it running around smashing stuff, but none of it stands out as being exceptional, or even well-done. I have a friend with whom I see most action movies with mediocre CGI and a lackluster story, and he often calls them “watchable”, which roughly translates to "it wasn't the worst piece of crap we've seen this summer". That being said, the Incredible Hulk is "playable" - very, very "playable".

If you absolutely must play it, then I'd recommend nothing more than a rental. I think as far as enjoyment goes, the Incredible Hulk offers a limited amount of that. The Incredible Hulk is more entertaining in small doses, just jumping in and rampaging around the streets, demolishing buildings, bad guys and vehicles - that is rather entertaining. Though it's very much a one trick pony as this is the only thing the game really has going for it, playing through the campaign will at times infuriate, and ultimately just becomes a very lackluster experience. It's no wonder that Banner sounds so lethargic and his alter ego, the Hulk, is so angered.

The Incredible Hulk had a 50/50 chance of being a decent enough game, and it made the right move by leaning more towards the Ultimate Destruction Hulk title that rocked the original Xbox. Unfortunately the truly shoddy product that shipped to retail is unlikely to please anyone: it's buggy, glitchy, poorly optimised and visually unimpressive from a technical standpoint, and the missions are boring and the combat is repetitive too. If you can get past all that, rampaging through the city is decent fun and the way the game handles Hulk's upgrades is strangely compelling. None of these things redeem the game however, but don't get angry, just... don't get the Incredible Hulk.

Sega sort un jeu un mois sans doute trop tĂŽt quand on sait que le film n’arrive que fin juillet. Dommage.

Yes, I have just spent a good portion of this article venting my frustrations about this game, but let me leave you with this: there are concepts here that deliver. With a decent amount of work and attention to details, the sequel could be worth playing. Unfortunately, this one is just not ready yet, and that is written in the frequent bugs. I nearly forgot to tell you about the time I carried the shell of a helicopter through a standard-sized door, or the numerous times I hurled an unsuspecting foe through the level. Yes, they in fact just disappeared. They say you wouldn't like The Hulk when he is angry, but sorry pal, this time you can only blame yourself.

I hate to sound like a broken record stuck repeating quotes from 1UP reviews editor Nick Suttner's Hulk review, but the comparisons between this game and Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction are unavoidable. Ultimate Destruction was on the PS2 as well, but it still had a beautifully rendered, detailed city that was fully visible from any rooftop -- and a blast to wreak havoc on. Instead of building on that better game, though, Incredible Hulk is a weak attempt at mimicking it. Maybe I should have expected a Hulk game to fill me with rage...or maybe developer Edge of Reality just didn't think we'd have any expectations at all.

The Incredible Hulk isn't the worst movie tie-in game ever made, but the initial charm of mass destruction dissipates rather quickly. This leaves it a rather buggy and joyless experience that, like a gumball, loses its flavor all too fast. To be quite frank, if you own an Xbox 360, Crackdown does a significantly better job with letting you create havoc in the name of justice. Those with a PS3 or Wii are better off fishing for a used copy of Ultimate Destruction for PS2 or GameCube, respectively.

"The Incredible Hulk: The Official Videogame" sadly fails to break the curse of the superhero-movie-tie-in videogame, with graphics that astound for all the wrong reasons and gameplay that (although showing tiny glimpses of verve) will disappoint all but the most committed of Hulk fans. The Hulk, as a character, doesn’t really require the subtlest of touches and smashing things up can be fun, but "The Official Videogame" barely moves beyond this. Bruce Banner is famous for saying "Don’t make me angry – you wouldn’t like me when I’m angry". And do you know what? On this occasion he is absolutely right – we won’t.

The Incredible Hulk feels remarkably average and outdated across the board, shallow gameplay will probably turn most people off within the first few hours and lacks any graphical finesse to keep them interested further. When you jump into the water in Central Park as Hulk you are (somewhat randomly) thrown back out of it to the exact same place at the start of the water every single time. Surely Hulk can swim...or at least thrash about a bit. This is why this game is rubbish. It takes the sandbox idea and it ruins it with terrible execution. The graphics are horrific, the sound is almost as bad and the whole title is just shoddy and lacking in any intelligence and care. Quite obviously rushed through development in order to come onto the market at the same time as the film, this is sure to be another movie-to-game bargain bin dweller in a few weeks.

Digital Chumps (3 out of 10) (30%)

It seems this title has suffered the same fate as other movie based titles. Limited budget combined with inflexible release dates seem to be the most common explanation for these interactive motion picture mishaps. I just wanted a game that I could use the Hulk to kill stuff. Buildings, cars, people, whatever. To a certain extent, this title delivered on that aspect, but the world and reward was just too shallow. Even though they seemed to get the equation right, they failed on other basic gaming planes. Acceptable presentation sometimes gets taken for granted even if the point of the game isn't as clear in The Incredible Hulk. In those titles, I find myself sucked into the experience, but may not know what I'm experiencing. With this Wii dinner, it gives you the steak, but serves it on a cold platter.

The Incredible Crap!

The Good
Well, there isn't much to like about this game. It does feature the voice of Edward Norton, so that is a plus and it does try to follow the movie plot (almost!) and jumping around the city as The Hulk, destroying things is kinda fun. The graphics are actually not that bad, standard, nothing spectacular. Sadly, that's it.

The Bad
Well, its crap, crap, crap, crap, crap, crap....crap! First off, it is nothing but the Spider-Man 3 game engine, just this time instead of web-slinging around the city your basically just power jumping around. The sounds are crap, true they do have the voice-talent of Norton, but the acting is kinda cheezy and hearing the Hulk grunt every time you jump or growl every time you hit something really grinds your nerves, plus the sound of a building falling sounds like a stack of dominoes falling down.

The storyline also is like the Spider-Man 3 game, you do have the movie plot, but you also have storylines from the comics with characters like the U-Foes...yes the U-Foes, a group of four super powered villains and they are annoying as hell. Plus, when you keep causing damage you attract more military presence, destroying them will only send more, but trying to get away causes more destruction which will send more, so it's a never ending cycle of frustration.

Destroying things aren't fun either, the cars and buses when they are destroying just look a black square box, almost like they weren't trying at all. Another thing that really, really....really annoys me, you can kill enemies just by simply grabbing them and tossing them into a nearby building...BUT, grabbing and throwing an ordinary citizen does nothing...NOTHING! You can pick them up, jump high up in the air, throw them like a rag doll halfway across the screen and they get up like they just tripped, that's it. What is the point of even having them if you can't do nothing with them.

One more thing, there is hardly and rendered cinemas in this, there are some from time to time, but they look so forced, almost like they were rushed, most of the time it is voice acting disguised as an eavesdropping just showing a tape recorder at a military installation. It is almost like they didn't even want to bother with it.

The Bottom Line
Here's my advice, forget it, don't even rent it. I rented it for $7 bucks for a week and I was so angry I thought about scratching the back of it and take it back and pass it off and rent another and hope that the damn thing wouldn't have to grace another person. It's simple, avoid this game, this is another example of a game released just to promote a movie and to hell with the quality.

Now, here is a bit of irony, this game is considered crap and is based on a movie that is considered superior to that Ang Lee tumor back a few years, but the game that was based on that is actually better than this, but here is something even better, The Hulk: Ultimate Destruction is actually better than these two and it isn't based on either. Now that's funny...sort of.
